Steps of binary fission11/2/2023 ![]() ![]() In order to retain the cell component, the number of cells grows in a logarithmic way. ![]() The number of cells doubles during this period. While metabolic activity is strong during this stage, it is often restricted to the processes required for reproduction. Ii) Exponential growth or log phase - When cells begin the exponential development phase the cells split into two at this point through binary fission, and the doubling of each generation results in the phase's characteristic exponential growth. At this phase, the cells begin to grow in size but not necessarily in quantity. All the essential precursor molecules required for replication and cell growth are produced by the cells using the medium in which the cell is being cultured. I) Lag phase - The earliest phase of cell growth is the lag phase which is typically characterized by the cell's metabolic activity rather than growth. There are four growth phases namely - the lag phase, the log or exponential phase, the stationary phase, and the death phase. Growth phases: Growth phases are a series of steps of bacterial cell growth in culture. The main means of reproduction for bacterial species is binary fission. An organism copies its genetic material or DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) in the process of binary fission, and separates its single cell into two pieces, with each new organism cell having one copy of DNA. ![]() Binary fission: Binary fission is an asexual reproduction method in which the organism is divided into two new bodies. ![]()
